Benoît Depaire

Full Professor of Business Informatics

For twenty years I have studied why organisations get less out of their data and technology than they could. I help them close that gap with AI —grounded in evidence, independent of every vendor.

What I stand for

Twenty years of research

More than twenty years of research in data mining, process mining and AI in a business context. Around 3,450 citations, nineteen doctoral students supervised, and the 2024 ICPM keynote on algorithm engineering for process mining.

A bridge between research and practice

I lead the applied research unit of the Business Informatics group: we translate concrete business problems into AI solution designs that hold up scientifically.

The problem first, the technology second

I never start from a tool or a hype cycle. First get the problem sharp, then the evidence — and only then the question of which technology fits. Sometimes the answer is: none.
